The Second SOLELab is Already Underway: El Tambo, Cauca

By Belen Sevilla Morillo | Project and Community Gardener

La Biblioteca del Futuro arranca en El Tambo
La Biblioteca del Futuro arranca en El Tambo

I don't know where to start telling you this, dear sponsors: it's happening in El Tambo, Cauca. Right now. In record time!

We met the people who form the working circles in El Tambo, thanks to Adapt Peacebuilding. Our colleagues at Adapt Peacebuilding focus on creating long-term peace through continuous adaptation to the needs and dynamics of communities. They promote active community participation in peacebuilding processes, ensuring that solutions are appropriate and sustainable, and emphasize the importance of resilience and the capacity of communities to adapt to changes and challenges.

The community of El Tambo has created at least three participation and working circles in their territory: Women's Circle, Youth Circle, and Water Circle. These are the three themes driving new ways of organizing, new projects, inspiring the forces that promote significant changes. To work and create their own projects, these circles use a methodology called Participatory Action Research, a research approach that combines action and investigation to address complex problems in real contexts.

At SOLE Colombia, our purpose is to create an equitable and beautiful future together, one Big Question at a time. We ignite the curiosity of groups of people, transforming spaces with connectivity into Self-Organized Learning Environments (SOLE), to recognize the power of individuals and enable our lives and communities to flourish. We shake up the status quo, creating networks of communities that learn beyond borders and differences, building bridges between people and ideas towards a more vibrant shared world.

We met the circles by doing SOLE. The question we encountered for the first time was, "Can you cultivate water?" I was the "Granny" of that SOLE session—so much knowledge in just one session. We discovered that not only can water be cultivated, but the ancestors of all humanity possessed that knowledge. We seem to have forgotten it, but it is there. People discovered that the knowledge they possess is validated by science, and it is also shared by other cultures far away in distance and time. Together, we found that by digging holes in a certain way and arranging them like crops, water can spring up, clean and available.

Would you like to be part of the SOLE Colombia Community? How would you feel about having a space to learn to learn together, using the Internet in a group and through Big Questions like this? The response was immediate and resounding: YES. Yes, they want a space where they can continue practicing the self-organization they have been working on with Adapt, that self-management they excel at, that unstoppable force of community work to solve real-life challenges.

Dear Madrinas of SOLE Colombia: the second Library of the Future in Colombia is already underway.

Thank you for supporting us!
