Our Community Outreach teams work in the 6 compounds in which we have a CCC. • Monday and Tuesday are Community Outreach Training Days with volunteers in the community. These volunteers are from the local health clinic, schools, churches, businesses or family members. Trainings are on one of the days for a total of 6 hours for 8 weeks. To date, Special Hope has trained over 720 Disability Advocates in Lusaka!
Here is one story from a family that shows the impact of our Community Outreach program:
“Life was not easy for us as a family before we came to Special Hope because we didn’t know a lot about these disabilities. Some people in the community think that these children with disabilities are not normal. They treat them very badly and call them names. When they see us coming they say, “Hide, that child is coming!” Since coming to Special Hope, we’ve learned a lot and we’ve received a lot of help. Things have changed because we now understand that children with disabilities are made like anybody else. We now know how to handle these children because we know what kind of disability they have, so we understand them and we know how to treat them. So as a parent, I’d like to thank Special Hope and all the staff and all the helpers who are supporting us to help our children. Thank you! -Elizabeth, Grandmother to Sanford
