For women who escape the clutches of ISIS, their ordeal is not yet over. Many still live in refugee camps, displaced far from their homes. Some are alone, having lost their husbands and families to ISIS violence.
But you can make a difference, and here is one example. Thanks to your support, our partners at the Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq (OWFI) recently sheltered several women for a month. These women were greeted with food, clothing, medical attention and therapy. While the women were at the shelter, OWFI worked hard to find their families and successfully reunited all of them with their loved ones.
As one survivor said, “We did not feel safe at the camp, we were at risk of being raped. We had nowhere to go. We are lucky we made it to the Organization of Women’s Freedom in Iraq. This is a very safe place, and it supplied us all sources of comfort. We feel safer now.”
Thanks to your generosity, women throughout Iraq are able to find the support they need to rebuild their lives and reconnect with their families.
