Thanks to YOUR support, Nyaka and EDJA Foundation have partnered together to increase awareness about sexual assault in the community. To help with this effort, training was provided about Gender Based Violence (GBV). This was a two day training for Nyaka staff and other members in the community which included religious leaders, Police, Medical Officers, and State Attorney’s. It was a great turn out with a total of 81 participants. The trainings were conducted by EDJA Foundation, and equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed to deal with Gender Based Violence cases. The topics that were covered centered around sexual assault; child abuse; confidentiality; effects of rape; gender based violence; myths and facts; and survivors network scale.
Change has already been seen in the community! Since Nyaka and EDJA began to tackle the problem of sexual assault in the area, we have seen an increase in reporting incidences. Victims are starting to trust that someone will help them in their healing journey. There is a counselor who makes home visits and also offers financial support in legal cases because it’s the victims and their families who have to pay to have their perpetrator arrested and held in jail. There is still a need for future trainings and more community dialogues regarding Gender Based Violence. YOU can help increase sexual assault awareness by making a donation today!
