Meet Fran,
Fran* is the first born in a family of three. She used to live with her mother, who is always sickly with disease. Because of the chronic illness, Fran's mother was chased away from her matrimonial home and accused of bewitching her husband, who had earlier shown signs of disease as well. Fran's mother has since passed away. Fran's father and brothers want nothing to do with her. They are openly hostsile. They pass the blame and shame of disease onto Fran since the mother is gone, and no longer allow her to come home.
Fran of course, is always welcome at the Makindu Children's Center, where she can get a good meal, a wash, some guidance and a hug.
We have helped to enroll Fran in college in Nairobi to seek a Bachelor of Science degree in Sustainable Community Development with a major in Disaster Management and a minor in French Language, a passion of hers. She has done well her first term, adjusting to college life and the fresh start. She is so very much alone and vulnerable however, in a brand new place, knowing no one, with only Makindu Children's Center and you to support her. Please empower Fran with education so that she can become a confident, successful and happy woman. Please help Fran with another term of school!
*Her name has been changed to protect her identity.
