Scholarships for Intelligent but Needy Children

By Bonnie Mendes | Project Leader

Shawariya Maqsood, a 16-year-old resident of Madina Colony, Toba Tek Singh, has faced immense challenges in her young life. With three brothers and a father struggling with drug addiction, Shawariya's mother sadly passed away, leaving the family in a precarious situation. Her father's addiction rendered him unable to provide for their daily needs.

To support her family, Shawariya took on the responsibility of working at her neighbor's house, earning a modest income to feed her brothers. Despite the hardships, Shawariya nurtures a strong desire to pursue education and ultimately dedicate her life to serving humanity. However, her family's dire financial circumstances seemed to dash her dreams.

Fate intervened when Shawariya learned from a friend about the Society for Human Development (SHD), an organization offering scholarships to underprivileged students. With renewed hope, Shawariya contacted SHD and secured a scholarship, enabling her to continue her studies. She is now a college student

Shawariya expresses her heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of SHD for their unwavering support of disadvantaged students like herself. Their assistance has not only empowered her to pursue her educational aspirations but also instilled in her the confidence to make a positive impact in the world.

With SHD's continued support, Shawariya looks forward to overcoming the obstacles in her path and achieving her goal of becoming a nurse. She is determined to work hard, excel in her studies, and make her family proud. Shawariya's resilience and determination serve as a testament to the transformative power of education and the impact of organizations like SHD.
