Over the years we have worked very closely with Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital - You can see this from the description in our Project Report since the hospital is now 81 years old. Time is flying!
Our relationship with this incredible hospital has spanned over 6 years and we are so proud to say that in this time we have achieved the following major milestones:
1) Decorated, painted and furnished their Kangaroo Mother Care Ward (The renovated blank Canvas was created by the Smile Foundation and we then made it beautiful and functional).
2) Renovated and created a beautiful Counselling Room and a Breastfeeding Room (The Breastfeeding Room is almost coming up for a much needed revamp given how often it is used daily).
3) We have completely renovated and created two beautiful overnight suites with a shared bathroom and a dedicated kitchenette and study area for each room for the exhausted registrars.
4) Renovated, painted and deep cleaned the Paediatric Outpatient Ward - Making the space really welcoming for all the kiddies and families that visit this key ward. This renovation has also gone a long way to uplift the moods of the health professionals that work there, as they had all been surrounded by peeling paint and run down spaces for decades.
In between this key building work we have also made sure that we have regularly delivered Footprints 4 Sam buckets with Food and Toiletries; provided knitted jerseys and toys; education and training for health professionals around Tracheostomies and supported them in supporting children with Traches by providing Trache bags and going home packs for Children including lifesaving suction machines.
Plus supplied coaching, debriefing support and talks on Burnout, Compassion Fatigue and human centred healthcare. The list is long....and the impact tangible!
But one of the key accomplishments is lining up a Professional Team prepared to work with us on renovating the Neonatal ICU and associated wards of this Grand Old Dame. And the best news to share is that Government red tape is finally unravelling and we continue to work hard towards making sure that all the I's are dotted and T's crossed to ensure that this incredible project can truly become a reality (Millions of Rands Worth of Professional Hours have already been dedicated to this life saving project). The NICU Renovation Legacy project remains a few weeks away from being shovel ready – it is now all about the final paperwork and of course raising the final R80+ Million needed!
Keep a close eye on this space as we continue full steam ahead in our fundraising drive to ensure that this long awaited space can become a reality.
Thank you for all your support that keeps helping us move forward and for keeping us encouraged as we navigate the many stakeholders and parties of interest.
Warmest wishes,
Melissa
