It is strange to think that this time last year we in South Africa were just learning about the craziness of Covid and what lay ahead in terms of the devastating impact of the virus. Today a year later we are bracing ourselves, along with many in the rest of the world, for a possible third wave, as the vaccine roll out in South Africa inches slowly along.
Since we last spoke our work at Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital has continued with great enthusiasm - We have donated 500 Bettercare Textbooks and training to improve Paediatric Palliative Care both at Rahima and other Government hospitals across the Country. We have finished work at the Rahima Kangaroo Mother Care Ward by adding additional dividers between rooms to ensure better infection control. We have also installed a huge built-in cupboard unit for storage to ensure that the new and improved spaces we created for the mothers and children could be kept tidy and beautiful.
In December, we responded to the need for communication over the festive season and we installed WIFI in the Kangaroo Mother Care Ward so that the Mums would have access to family and friends over Christmas and into the New Year. The gift of WIFI will continue throughout this year and for as long as we can sustain this support.
Fundraising for the renovation of the actual neonatal ward continues and our generous architects are hard at work ensuring that the forward motion of this project continues despite the delays caused because of Covid-19.
We would like to thank all of you together with GlobalGiving for ensuring that the health professionals, families and patients at this incredible hospital feel seen and heard, as we continue to support them through the provision of beautiful facilities that continue to give hope and dignity to so many precious lives.
All our love and please stay safe,
Melissa (Sam's Mum)
