This project by ONGED aims to enhance the effectiveness of traditional medicine for over 150,000 people in Dogbo Couffo (a rural area of Benin) by introducing the Quantum Magnetic Resonance Analyzer (QRMA) for more accurate diagnoses. By combining local herbal knowledge with modern technology, we reduce diagnostic errors and strengthen healing practices, providing accessible and appropriate healthcare for underserved populations.
In rural areas of Benin, the total absence of hospital infrastructures means that people face major health challenges, and cannot afford to pay for medical prescriptions. The slightest illness is fatal: 2% of them die every year. Although traditional healers have mastered the curative virtues of plants, the lack of diagnostic tools exposes patients to inappropriate treatments, often with serious consequences for their health.
We equip a rural health center with QRMA, an affordable and easy-to-use diagnostic tool. By accurately identifying health problems, this device enables healers to offer more targeted treatments at lower cost, thus reducing therapeutic errors. By knowing and using local flora in a targeted way, communities can effectively treat ailments while helping to preserve their natural resources.
This project will sustainably improve the quality of healthcare in rural areas of Benin, reducing the risk of inappropriate treatment and mortality. Through an approach integrating technology and local knowledge, the accurate identification and treatment of diseases will be optimized, ensuring better health for vulnerable communities and contributing to the transmission and preservation of traditional medicine for future generations. A bonus will be the need to conserve biodiversity for health.
