Supporting Iraqi Children With Disabilities

By Qasim Alowaid/Roz Fuller | President/Vice-President

HELP IRAQI CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

ICHOPE staff continue to provide services to children with mental health needs, many of whom suffer from many mental problems. The ICHOPE’s staff has arranged for a third center to start delivering services to our children, in addition to the two centers we have been dealing with during the past period.

  • Four private pharmacies have supported this project and provided medicine and vitamins at a significant discount.
  • Six volunteers have done a fantastic job in working with families and mental health centers and are patient in helping and supporting this project.
  • Two staff members were managing this project.
  • In 2024 ICHOPE has served 17 children with mental health issues (Autism, speech disorders, atrophy of the mind, and other disabilities)
  • 4 children received Excellent grades, 6 received Good grades, and 7received Average so far in 2024.
  • This project has shown a significant impact on these children and their families. We hope to receive more support from donors so we can expand that project to support more children.

Story of Tiba

Tiba is 6-year-old girl who was scared to go to school because she was not able to focus. Her mother tried to send her to a different school that Tiba might like, and ICHOPE members found a mental health center Tiba is comfortable.

For about 4 months now Tiba has been attending the center and she likes it. She has started to get along with other children at the center. Her specialist doctor and staff work hard to develop Tiba’s focus so she can go to a regular school next year.
