Project Report | Oct 14, 2021
Pediatric care for children deprived of family

By Erika Pardo | Project Leader

The constant attention of the health conditions of the children and adolescents sheltered in Hogar Bambi Venezuela (Bambi International Foundation allie's), is a continuous  and meticulous work. This is achieved by the medical team that operates in the institutions, in coordination with the support of external medical services. They have attended, diagnosed and treated in a convenient way the pathologies, infections, diseases or other urgent situations that the children have suffered.

During the period of April - September 2021, a large number of medical activities were performed, among them: clinical evaluations of newcomers, anthropometric evaluations, treatment updates to attend mental health pathologies and  external appointments in different specialties, among them: dentistry, nephrology, neurology, orthopedics and otorhinolaryngology. Lab tests were also performed: toxicology tests,  calcium and creatinine tests, uric acid in partial urine, chemistry and cytomegalovirus serology, among others.

To summarize our achievements in numbers:

  • 144 general check-ups of 94 boys and girls.
  • 542 appointments due to illness
  • 6 surgical interventions
  • 72 ultrasound tests
  • 93 laboratory tests
  • 4 children hospitalized
  • 2 anthropometry sessions
  • 2 deworming sessions
  • 163 doses of hepatitis and flu vaccines.

As indicated in previous reports, the children we shelter arrive with nutritional deficiencies and health problems that require immediate attention. Unfortunately, the country's situation aggravates the precarious living conditions of these children at a young age, affecting their normal physical, mental and social development. These are children who have had to go out to work or wander the streets begging for money and food. Some have health complications as a result of uncontrolled pregnancies, mothers with addictions and poor nutrition. For this reason, Bambi International Foundation continues its efforts and alliances to offer them high quality care and provide them with life opportunities that allow them to regain optimal health in the shortest possible time.
