Dear Friend,
The season started out difficult due to wildfires and periods of extreme heat. But in the end, our round the clock protection efforts meant that one macaw nest was successful. A bird was added to the cyanoptera macaw population of less than 20 individuals. This is an important milestone for the critically endangered cyanoptera macaw population in Cosiguina, and we couldn’t have done it without your support! Now, this baby chick has spread its wings and is flying through the forest with the support of its community.
We are also excited to share that our parrot ranger Hector Espinoza was the recipient of an International Ranger Award from the IUCN Africa Protected Areas Congress for his heroic work climbing up to 500 trees each season to protect baby parrots! To read more about Hector’s amazing achievement, click here.
Presently our parrot biolgosts continue to monitor the parrots and macaws at Cosiguina. The community rangers, together with our team of field technicians, will soon begin preparing for the nesting season by cleaning out the macaw nests in late October and early November.
We are so thankful to our donors and their unwavering commitment to the cyanoptera macaw and its forest habitats. Thank you for making a difference for the cyanoptera macaw in Central America.
