Hope for Girls and Women in Tanzania runs two safe houses in Serengeti and Butiama Districts to protect survivors from gender-based violence. We also conduct community outreach in five districts; Serengeti, Butiama, Tarime, Rorya and Bunda but receive girls from different regions in the country.
In the month of January, we started with the number of 153 girls § Nine (9) girls were admitted. § 19 girls who were taken to Kiabakari for tuition program were brought back to continue with their studies. § 63 families were reconciled with their daughters. § We currently have a total number of 90 girls at Mugumu Safe House
Butiama Safe House, started the month of January with the total number of 260 girls as shown on the table above. § We admitted 10 girls who fled from Child Marriage and FGM § 19 girls were taken back to Mugumu Safe House to continue with their normal studies. § We managed to reconcile 152 girls with their parents § Currently we have 99 girls at Butiama Safe House.
Reconciliation: During this month, Hope for Girls and Women in Tanzania staff in collaboration with social welfare from Butiama and Serengeti Districts, the Police Gender desk have managed to conduct reconciliation session in different villages, where 224 girls were able to meet and reconcile with their parents, guardians and family members after guarantees from them not to cut them.
