Clean water is particularly important right now during the Global Covid-19 pandemic. We have all become more aware of the need for clean hands and hygienic spaces. Mayor Potencial is a volunteer-run not-for-profit organization, 501(c)(3), working with the community of El Rodeito in Honduras to provide food, education, and safe drinkable water. This project will supply the village with a water filtration, storage, and a delivery system.
This project is primarily to improve the health of the families of El Rodeito. River water, currently consumed by the villagers, is contaminated. Clean water is expected to reduce the rate of pediatric cancers, illnesses, and the mortality rate of the children. A secondary motive is to provide irrigation to the farms in the area, to improve their production and economic viability. Fresh water will contribute to both physical and economic wellbeing of the people.
We are planning a 3-phase project. Phase 1 will survey the village and elevations. This will allow us to determine our method of transport, filtration, and delivery method for water. Phase 1 = $10,000. Service fees = $1,590. Phase 2 will take the water from the nearby river to the village and develop a filtration and storage system to provide clean water in the community. Phase 3 will create the infrastructure to deliver the filtered water to the homes and farm fields in the village.
Access to safe, drinkable water at every home, farm, and school will have a huge impact. It will not only reduce deaths and illnesses, but it will also positively affect the finances of the families. Villagers will provide labor during the construction process and be trained on the maintenance and upkeep. Our partnership with the community and their involvement in every step ensures their long-term commitment. It also provides the potential to help nearby villages.
