Mentoring Boys With Mathematics

We are delighted to provide you with an update on our SOLVE IT RIGHT: Mentoring Boys With Mathematics project for this quarter. Your generous donations have been instrumental in our continued efforts to mentor and educate boys in mathematics, and we are deeply grateful for your support.

During this quarter, we resumed our weekly classes, which span a nine-month period. These classes serve as a platform for us to engage and mentor boys, equipping them with essential mathematical skills. We are thrilled to announce that we have moved to a new location to accommodate a larger number of boys and create a more conducive learning environment. This expansion allows us to reach a wider audience and provide our mentoring services to more boys from various backgrounds.

One noteworthy aspect of the project is its consistent implementation since its launch in 2021. This speaks to our dedication and commitment to the cause of empowering young boys through mathematics. By consistently providing mentoring sessions, we aim to inspire and encourage these boys to develop a love for mathematics while improving their problem-solving abilities.

Empowering Boys Through Mathematics Education

We are happy to provide you with our quarterly report on the progress of our project, SOLVE-IT-RIGHT: Mentoring Boys With Mathematics. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and commitment to empowering boys through mathematics education within communities.

This quarter marked the beginning of the 2023/24 classes, and we are proud to announce that we have successfully established two new centers. These centers serve as nine-month mathematics intensive and intervention classes specifically tailored to boys. Since the inception of this project in 2021, we have had the privilege of benefiting over 300 participants.

The primary objective of this project is to provide a weekly math program that contributes to the overall development of our community. We firmly believe in empowering boys aged 14-18 with essential mathematical skills, while also promoting a sense of community engagement and development. The impact of this initiative has been remarkable, with an increasing number of attendees each week.

However, as the program continues to grow, we find ourselves in need of additional resources. One of our pressing needs is the provision of mathematic textbooks and other learning materials. These resources are critical in ensuring that our boys receive the best possible education and support in their mathematical journey. We kindly request your assistance in helping us meet this need.

At Boys Mentoring Advocacy Network-BMAN, we strongly believe that modern innovation is deeply rooted in the knowledge of mathematics. Therefore, it is imperative that we do not leave its education solely to schools. Instead, we must extend our support to boys at the community level, empowering them to thrive in mathematics. By investing in this important cause, you are making a significant and lasting impact on the lives of these boys, equipping them with the skills necessary for future success.

Maths: Solve it Right (SIR) Project

50 learners participated for this quarter for Six (6) hours each week for three (3) hours per day for two (2) days per week. Two (2) maths Tutor engaged for the quarter.

85% of the participants demonstrated math skill in solving real life problems showing a deep mastery of the topics they took for the three-month period in the quarter.

Resources were drawn from both online and offline including certified Math textbooks from renowned authors, Mathematical sets, statistical tables, computers to demonstrate periodic applications. Calculators and construction materials.

Achievements seen prior to and following this quarter are participant who enrolled for external examinations like the west Africa Examination council (WAEC), Joint Admission and Matriculation Boards (JAMB/UTME) and excelling in these exams. We have participants in our centre who have gained admission to study the course of their choice in various Nigerian Universities.

We look forward to expanding this project to reach 1250 boys in our communities who hitherto may have given up in pursuing their dreams just because they are challenged in Mathematics. We have had a situation of this nature where a participant who currently is studying Mechanical Engineering in one of the University in Nigeria almost giving up his dream but for the intervention of SIR.

The understanding of mathematical science is the basis for scientific and technological advancement. Our vision is to fish out from various community’s young people who may have potentials in science and technology but are too scared to pursue their dreams. This will give opportunities to young people and rekindle the hope of fulfilling their dreams.

There are many young people in our communities that have lost out in their dreams. Our interview with them revealed that they gave up their dreams to join some cult groups because they were frustrated. With what we have done so far, it appears the situation would need more attention and the support of donors will help the expansion work in reaching many of these young people and redirecting their attention to their dreams with the teaching mathematics as a mentoring platform.
