Tourism might never be the same and the rural communities who depend significantly on tourism don't want to be left behind. Tourism recovery could take up to 4 years! That means 2024. Isolated mountain villages cannot wait. Their daily challenges should not go unnoticed. The Andean tourist circuits of Cuncani and Media Luna want to keep sharing their beautiful landscapes, traditions and lives with the rest of the world. But when travel is restricted, how? Through virtual reality! VR!
Even before the pandemic, many beautiful communities in the Andes were surviving in isolation. Tourism has helped to generate a connection to other people and to income opportunities. However, these communities don't have access to technology. No internet, no phone coverage. However, they are always keen and proud in showing their lives and land to the world. We may not be able to visit them physically now, but that doesn't mean we cannot maintain a connection.
In partnership with 5scopes we are raising funds to create VR circuits of Cuncani and Media Luna communities! They will have their own VR tour and will be hosted on the Peruvian platform JOINNUS for anyone in any country to have access to the circuit, learn about the Andean culture and its wonders. 100% of the VR tour income will go directly to the communities. VR will help them sustain a footing in the tourism industry, until it is safe to travel freely and meet again face-to-face.
Cusco is a city that lives through tourism and the most affected are those whose sole income comes from tourism. The recovery will be slow and communities such as Cuncani and Media Luna won't be able to sustain themselves and their humble ways without the concerted efforts of outside assistance. This VR will: - Generate immediate income - Promote rural tourism circuits for anyone to visit This project will help them to combat the devastating effects of Covid-19.
