ALERT: Bangladesh will no longer accept Rohingya refugees

By Marie Clarke | Executive Director

Bangladesh has just announced that it cannot host any more Rohingya refugees. An overwhelming 700,000 Rohingya people have taken refuge in Bangladesh already. It’s not safe for them to return or stay in Myanmar, and political solutions are stalling.

Bangladesh kept its borders open and provided safe haven for many Rohingya people, but existing resources can only be stretched so far.

Through your donations, we’re coordinating humanitarian response and specifically lifting up the voices of Rohingya refugee women leaders – creating safe spaces for them to meet, organize community watch groups, and access resources.

The Rohingya women I met in Bangladesh were very clear: they want to go back home to Myanmar, but only if they can return safely, with their rights protected, and their citizenship intact.

That day has not yet come.

Safety. Rights. Home. That's what they’re demanding, and that’s what we’re working for together. While we’re lifting up the voices of Rohingya refugee women leaders within the camps, we’re also lifting them up at the global level, working with the United Nations, international community, and the governments of Bangladesh and Myanmar, to ensure that justice ends this cycle of violence.

ActionAid Supporter, the Rohingya people have the answer to this crisis, and they’re determined to build their future. Please consider making a special donation to respond at this critical time.

In solidarity,
Marie
