A forest is growing in the Miguel Aleman Restoration Site. After 11 years of plating more than 100,000 native plants, we can see an incredible forest. Recently, we reached 170 hectares of restored land in the Colorado River Delta.
Native plants like Poplar (Populus fremontii), Willow (Salix gooddingii), Sweet Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa), Mexican Palo verde (Parkinsonia microphylla), Mezquite tornillo (Prosopis pubescens) and Palo fierro (Olneya tesota), are now part of the landscape offering food, breeding and resting site to small mammals, birds, and insects.
The invaluable environmental services for the closer communities can not be denied. Now habitants of Mexicali Valley (Baja California) and San Luis Río Colorado (Sonora) enjoy this small forest's clean air and having a recreational site to visit close to their cities. The neighbors get involved in reforestation activities and workshops.
The last stages of restoration allow our field staff and biologists to monitor birds and obtain data about them as indicators of the success of the restoration. Many students have visited the site to learn about birds and plant propagation.
We are starting a new restoration site next to Miguel Aleman at Ejido Janitzio. Our goal this 2023 is to restore 30 hectares more.
Thanks to your support, the restoration of the Colorado River Delta is possible.
