Restore Mateos and Andreas hearing , Guatemala

As of now, progress is slow in Andrea´s speech due to her profound loss.  However, she is now more attentive, more receptive to instructions, but still relies on gestures and signs.  We are working on her pre reading and prewriting skills and basic arithmetic concepts, too.

For the time being, she is attending day classes in a regular school two mornings per week, to help her integrate with hearing peers, and also to help her develop social skills.

Andrea´s parents have met other parents of  children with hearing loss, which has been extremely benefitial; some are users of hearing aids and others of cochlear implants.  It has been useful for them to realize that even with a cochlear implant, there is a lot of work to be done after surgery, and that therapy and schookl support will be necessary all the way.

We are hopeful that a careing heart will support Andrea´s family to pursue her dream ofr hearing and perhaps talking if we can perform the surgery soon.

First and foremost, I want to thank all the people who have trusted this project. Hearing is a fundamental part of the lives of all people, especially of parents who want to hear their daughter's voice.

Andrea is still waiting for her surgery; there is still a long way to go, but we have not lost faith, nor the confidence that will be achieved. For the moment, Andrea continues her auditory and language stimulation to develop her abilities as much as possible and be prepared as much as possible for when the time comes for her surgery.

The surgery will be done when the necessary amount is completed, but we will not waste time and will continue to work with her meanwhile. Her parents are also learning how to communicate effectively with Andrea and support her as much as possible.
