Those that supported our project have helped HMAR dramatically during this pandemic. Despite closed beaches and less tourism in Hawaii, marine life are still being reported as injured or distressed. This summer was no different. HMAR responded to countless Hawaiian monk seals that became hooked or entangled in fishing gear, as well as multiple seabirds that had injured wings or were found on the ground unable to take flight again. Once of our most unique responses happened twice - two sea turtle nests hatched hundreds of baby hatchlings. These hatchlings became disoriented from the light and ended up moving away from the ocean, towards neighborhoods, parks, and street lights! While many were lost, some did make it out to sea thanks to HMAR. With your support, we had the needed supplies for this response. But our goal hasn't been met yet.
You can donate today to support rescues like this. We use GlobalGiving funds for staff and equipment so we can save animals that otherwise wouldn't survive. As we enter the fall, seabird fallout seasons is coming, and we need to be prepared. Donate today to help us reach our goal.
