Providing Syrian refugees with their basic needs

Winter is far from over in the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan. The most recent storms have left more than 50,000 Syrian refugees cold, wet and muddy. Despair hangs heavy in the air, as people start to view the camp as home while conflict remains constant back in Syria.

Mercy Corps has been working at Za'atari since it opened in July 2012.  Back then we were digging wells, providing school supplies, and building playgrounds and shaded spaces for children to play safely away from the scorching sun. Now those same covered areas are providing a place for all to stay warm and dry from frigid rain.

Though we will continue these efforts, our focus now is to provide people with their basic needs. With your help we are providing winter clothes, blankets, mattresses, cooking kits, gas heaters and gas to 1,000 families

While Mercy Corps works on innovative ideas to solve problems for the long-term, the refugees of Syria now require the most elementary essentials. The urgent needs of people in the toughest circumstances will always be at the center of our work. Right now, these basics make all the difference.

I will continue to send you updates on our work and programs in Syria and Jordan but please let me know if you have any questions or if I can provide more information.

In gratitude,

Carlene
