HRI Continues to Provide Vital WASH Services

By Jennifer Jones | Vice President of Advancement

Overview of the Situation
The humanitarian crisis in Haiti has reached alarming levels, with more than a million people now internally displaced, according to the latest data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). As of March 2025, 1,041,000 people are currently displaced—many of them having been displaced multiple times—due to ongoing conflict and instability. Among this population, children are particularly vulnerable, making up over half of the displaced individuals. These children, many of whom are separated from their families, are facing critical challenges, including access to basic necessities such as food, clean water, and shelter.

Humanitarian Response: HRI’s Contributions
HRI has continued to be actively engaged in providing life-saving assistance to displaced persons in Haiti. Our focus has been on delivering essential resources such as water and medical care, while also continuing our support for orphaned children in the region. Below are the key activities and services provided by HRI:

  1. Provision of Water:

    • Running Water: From February to March 2025, HRI has supplied a total of 42,000 gallons of running water to displaced populations in make-shift camps.
    • Potable Water: We have distributed 20,800 gallons of potable water to those in dire need, ensuring that families can access clean and safe water for drinking and basic hygiene.
  2. Water Distribution for Hygiene:

    • To promote proper hygiene and prevent the spread of disease, HRI has distributed water buckets (2 per site) at two key displacement sites to support handwashing efforts.
    • We are planning to distribute 4 additional water buckets by the end of March 2025 to a third site, further strengthening our efforts to improve hygiene practices.
  3. Ongoing Support to Orphanages:

    • HRI continues to deliver nutritious food, clean water, medical care, and other essential services to hundreds of children living in a dozen orphanages. These children rely on our support for their daily survival and well-being.

Impact on the Ground
These efforts have made a significant impact in addressing the immediate needs of displaced populations in Haiti. The provision of water has been critical in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases, while the distribution of hygiene materials helps protect individuals from the risks posed by unsanitary living conditions. Our ongoing support to orphanages ensures that children—some of the most vulnerable individuals in this crisis—are receiving the care and resources they desperately need to survive and thrive.

Looking Ahead
As the crisis in Haiti deepens, the need for sustained humanitarian assistance will only grow. HRI remains committed to providing critical support to the displaced populations and vulnerable children in Haiti, but we cannot do this without the continued generosity of our donors. Your support is vital in ensuring that we can continue to deliver lifesaving assistance and bring hope to those who have lost everything.

We are deeply grateful for your continued support in our mission to help the people of Haiti in their time of greatest need.

Thank you for your generosity.
