Kala is a 15-year-old girl who lived with her family in the Indian state of Bihar, where she was attending school. Her family lived in a situation of poverty, and this is what led them to accept a job offer for the girl to go to work in domestic service in Bombay. They agreed, even though the offered salary was only the equivalent of 11.50 euros a month, but they thought she would at least have a place to live, food, and some money to save.
However, it was all a lie: behind the job offer, there was a network that began to sexually exploit Kala. During more than two months, she was forced to have sexual intercourse with at least three or four clients every day. A terrible nightmare she could not escape from.
Finally, and thanks to the work of our Rescue unit in collaboration with the police, we were able to follow up on her case until we managed to save her from this situation. Five other girls were also rescued in the same operation, and two of her exploiters were detained without bail and will face charges which probably will lead them to prison.
Like Kala, every day many women and girls are trafficked and exploited. We keep commited to rescue them and provide the support they need to recover their normal life.
Today, Kala is hosted in a safe public foster care institution, where she will be able to rebuild her life with dignity and freedom. Those that all girls and women deserve. Those that we can bring them back thanks to your support.
