Dear Supporters and Global Project Team,

We are saddened to share the latest update on our project, "Save the Lives of 200,000 Drought Victims," a critical initiative led by Tiruzer Ethiopia for Africa (TEA) to support communities suffering from the severe drought in Bugna Woreda, Amhara Region. Your contributions continue to provide hope, but the situation remains dire, and we must urgently address the life-threatening needs of affected families.

Progress to Date:

Our team has been working tirelessly to provide essential support to the drought-affected communities, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable families. To date, we have been able to assist 50 IDPs and 23 households. However, the ongoing drought has led to devastating consequences.

Tragically, five children and two mothers have died due to food shortages, highlighting the severity of the crisis. Their loss is a painful reminder of the urgency of our mission and the need for continued support to save more lives. These deaths underscore the critical importance of our efforts to provide food, clean water, and medical aid to prevent further tragedies.

Relief Efforts and Distribution:

We have made significant progress in delivering aid, but the need for support is overwhelming:

2500 kg of wheat flour has been distributed, ensuring that 50 IDPs and 23 households received essential food supplies. This aid has been vital in addressing hunger and providing relief to the most vulnerable.
Medical aid, including essential life-saving medications, has been distributed to 50 IDPs, especially targeting malnourished children and those suffering from dehydration and illness caused by the drought.
Clothing has been provided to 50 children and adults, ensuring basic protection against the harsh conditions.
We have also facilitated access to clean water for 50 IDPs, addressing the severe water scarcity in the region.

Your generosity has allowed us to continue our critical work, but the scale of the crisis continues to challenge our resources. Every donation—whether in the form of food, medical supplies, or cash—has made a direct impact on the lives of those in need.

Impact and Feedback from Beneficiaries:

The feedback from the communities we have assisted remains positive despite the dire situation. Many families have shared their gratitude for the food and medical aid, especially for the children who have received life-saving care. However, the sorrowful loss of lives within the community has also highlighted the ongoing need for more resources to save others.

Challenges and Ongoing Needs:

The challenges we face are immense. The logistics of delivering aid to remote, affected areas continue to hinder our progress. Moreover, the widespread malnutrition, particularly among children, remains a growing concern. Despite our best efforts, the demand for assistance far exceeds the available resources, and the situation continues to worsen.

Our team is committed to doing all we can, but we need your continued support to ensure we can reach even more vulnerable individuals and provide them with the necessary food, water, and medical care to survive.

Looking Ahead:

Looking ahead, we are focusing on:

Expanding our outreach to additional communities in Bugna Woreda and beyond, ensuring that more families have access to food, clean water, and medical support.
Strengthening local partnerships and mobilizing additional resources to better address the ongoing needs, particularly for malnourished children.
Preparing for a fundraising campaign to secure more funds for continued relief efforts, particularly food and medical aid, as well as efforts to prevent further loss of life.

Progress Report: Saving Lives of Drought Victims

This report provides an urgent update on Tiruzer Ethiopia for Africa’s (TEA) ongoing efforts to support households affected by the dual crises of conflict and drought in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. Our mission is to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by these severe conditions through the provision of essential resources.

Support Provided

As of the latest update, TEA has supported 85 households in the Amhara region. Our aid includes:

Supplemental Food: Distribution of essential food supplies to ensure affected families have access to necessary nutrition.
Clothing: Provision of basic clothing items to help families cope with adverse conditions.
Medical Treatment: Coverage of medical expenses to address health issues aggravated by the ongoing conflict and drought.

Current Situation

The humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia has reached alarming levels, with the conflict evolving from the previous Northern conflict between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Federal Government to a new crisis involving the Federal Government and the Amhara people. Key developments include:

Escalation of Conflict: The current conflict between the Federal Government and the Amhara people has intensified the humanitarian crisis, leading to increased displacement and suffering.
Growing Displacement: The ongoing violence has forced many individuals to flee their homes, exacerbating the need for humanitarian assistance.
Intensified Hunger: The combined effects of conflict and drought have led to heightened food insecurity, further stressing affected communities.

Critical Statistics

Education Crisis: Over 4.1 million children are currently out of school in the Amhara region due to armed conflict, drought, and related factors. (Source: UNOCHA, April 27, 2024)

Urgent Appeal

The situation has deteriorated to a critical level. Children in the region are suffering immensely; some are being eaten by worms due to severe malnutrition and lack of medical care. Many families are living in empty tents for over three years without receiving any form of support. This dire situation necessitates immediate and substantial intervention.

We humbly request the GlobalGiving team’s urgent support to save lives. Your assistance is crucial in providing emergency relief, medical care, and essential supplies to those in desperate need. Without swift action, the suffering of these vulnerable populations will continue to escalate.

Challenges

Despite our efforts, TEA faces several challenges:
