Summary

The last 18 months have been nothing like we could have anticipated with nationwide lockdowns, curfews, international travel restrictions, a struggling economy, and uncertainty about the future as the Covid pandemic persists. And in this incredibly challenging time the need for Colobus Conservation's services to rescue and care for threatened primates continues. And indeed the threats facing Kenya's primates are sadly increasing while our resources are critically stretched.

Challenge

Due to travel limitations, which have impacted heavily on Kenya's tourism industry, the charity has lost 63% of its annual income from Eco-tourism and volunteer donations. In addition, many zoos worldwide that usually provide much-needed assistance to us have also been closed with the resulting knock-on effect being them forced to withhold grant funding. Despite many aspects recently returning back to some sense of normality, we are still nowhere close to our pre-Covid expected income.

Solution

Your support will enable us to continue our rescue operations and provide immediate medical attention to manage multiple primate emergencies such as injuries from road traffic accidents, electrocution, poaching and orphaned/abandoned infants. We will also be able to continue providing food, water, medical care, and enrichment for the 16 primates in our care currently undergoing rehabilitation and accommodate the extra costs incurred from increased protective and hygiene measures.

Long-Term Impact

We are facing a funding shortfall and without your support Colobus Conservation is on the brink of shutting down all operations in early 2022. Any donation you can make, big or small, will help us to continue to retain our dedicated staff; rescue and rehabilitate threatened primates while the international community slowly recovers from the effects of Covid and our traditional income streams return.
