Our rescue vessel MoChara, donated in 2015, is no longer sea-worthy and has been retired. It will be part of an art exhibition marking a decade of impact on human rights and those rescued. Due to the boat's decommissioning, we are pausing our life-saving missions. We are now fundraising for a new rescue vessel to continue our work, including preventing mass casualty events and providing emergency aid, shelter, food and medical care to those in need.
Each year, thousands of people, including children, drown in the Mediterranean Sea while fleeing violence, war, and persecution. Our retired rescue vessel, MoChara, has saved over 25,000 lives, but without a replacement, we cannot continue these critical missions. Vulnerable families risk their lives in overcrowded, unseaworthy boats, facing harsh conditions and perilous waters. Without immediate intervention, countless lives, including those of innocent children, will continue to be lost at sea
This project will fund a new rescue vessel to save lives at sea. It enables rapid response to prevent drownings, safe rescue of vulnerable individuals, and emergency care, including hydration, blankets, and medical support. We will work with partners to provide food, shelter, and healthcare for survivors. By restoring our ability to save lives, this project ensures families fleeing violence and persecution have hope and a chance at safety.
This project offers displaced individuals a chance at survival, dignity, and hope. A new rescue vessel will allow Refugee Rescue to save thousands of lives annually, reducing the risk of families and children perishing at sea. Our work sends a message of solidarity, showing no one should face perilous journeys alone. We strive for a future where every person's right to safety is upheld.
