Greetings to all our donors. Hoping that all of you are in good health. Hogares Teresa Toda is very excited to announce that we are in the process of the CARF accreditation. This accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation that a human services organization can receive. Its standards ensure that accredited organizations provide the best possible care, so people like you can trust that our organization has been reviewed with high standards in mind. We are committed to put the care of our girls first, and work hard every day to improve the quality of services in the organization.
With that said, there is a lot of work ahead. Environmental and Accessibility inspections acknowledged the repairs and improvement made after Hurricane Maria like the seal of the resident’s dorm roof, the repairs of the main entrance doors, and the installation of a new fire alarm system. However, there is work pending to be completed like the painting at the interior of one of the resident’s house and the construction of a cement hanger to protect the resident’s van.
Besides the above-mentioned needed repairs, the inspectors made several recommendations that amplify the number of repairs needed to comply with the accreditation standards. These repairs are related to accessibility to become ADA compliant and safety.
In order to be ADA compliant, we need to enlarge the kitchen’s door to apply the standard measure for wheelchairs to pass through; build a ramp at the entrance of the administrative building and another one at one of the houses. We also need to transform a living room into a bedroom for a participant with mobility limitations. In terms of safety, we have been recommended to install a surveillance system among another few details.
So, we have more work to do but we know that we are not alone. We have a community of donors and grantees that walk side by side with us to transform the lives of our participants. We are eager to provide the best care possible, the opportunity to heal trauma and provide our participants with the foundation to become strong and successful women in a near future. Thank you for joining us in this effort and for making the act of giving in an act of hope.
