Free Care for Thalassemia Heroes: Quarterly Progress Update

1. Patient Statistics

  • Total Registered Patients: 252

  • New Registrations (Recent): 5

  • Age-wise Distribution:

    • Below 5 years: 53

    • 5–10 years: 56

    • Above 10 years: 66

2. Treatment & Medical Care

Blood Transfusions (Past 6 Months):

 

  • Month: Sept-24 to Feb-2025
  • No. of Transfusions: 750

Iron Chelation Therapies (Past 6 Months):

  • Month: Sept-24 to Feb-2025
  • No. of Therapies: 572

Lab Investigations (CBC & Others):

  • Average 190+ CBC tests and 25+ specialized lab tests monthly.

3. Additional Services & Activities

  • Holistic Care: Dental check-ups, skin consultations, endocrine clinics.

  • Awareness & Community Engagement:

    • Thalassemia seminars, blood donation drives, picnics, and birthday celebrations.

  • Staff Expansion: Hired a new dedicated hematologist for improved care.

4. Patient Success Stories

  1. Eman (16 yrs): Transformed from chronic fatigue to active school participation.

  2. A. Raza (17 yrs): Significant weight gain and health stability after treatment.

  3. Uzair (11 yrs): Overcame infections and stunting; now excels in school and events.
    Families reported high satisfaction with care and staff support.

5. Challenges

  • Declining blood transfusion rates (Feb-25: 102 vs. Sept-24: 143) – need for donor drives.

  • Financial constraints for long-term sustainability.

6. Next Steps

  • Strengthen blood donation campaigns.

  • Expand outreach for new patient registrations.

  • Publish visual updates (photos of events/patient progress).
