Report on Relief Fund for COVID-19 Pandemic Victim

By Kamal Babu Pariyar | Executive Director

Report for Covid-19 Emergency Fund

What is the number of:

  • Families reached     :           244 families.
  • Total beneficiaries   :           976 (Average 4 people in a family)

Crisis invites violence in every family and abuses can happen when all the people locked in society and home. We ran short awareness session on "against domestic violence and abuses" during the crisis in relief distribution time. With that session we reached 244 women and men from every households.

We deeply focused to very poor and daily wage working people who were in food crisis than sanitary items because situation has been worsening with the uncertain extension of lock down. At its start, the daily wage earners in informal sectors were seen as the most vulnerable groups because they used to fulfill hand to mouth problem by daily wage earnings. Earlier only the most vulnerable groups faced economic crisis vastly but later the situation of better position people were also going through the critical condition. They were in the situation of starvation. So that, ADWAN decided to distribute food items. The following table contains necessary information about emergency relief activities at Gorkha and Chitwan districts.

Challenges:

Authorization from local government: To receive distribution permission was critical challenge we faced in starting phase because Nepal government has implemented one door system for relief distribution. According to the government policy, the most vulnerable who do not have any source of income of their own, nor have any option for income generation would get relief through the local government or in collaboration with the ward. At the end, ADWAN distributed some relief package to them who were in immediate needs collaboration with ward in place of rural municipality, municipality and Metropolitan city.

High demand of neighboring community people: We mostly reached to those community where ADWAN affiliated women lives. In time of food crisis the neighbor community people came to us and asked for food item. We couldn't address their demand in this time because of budget limitation and return them we will visit your village in next phase of distribution if we receive sufficient donation from international donor agencies. And we provided package to some people who were in most need and recommended by ward chairman.
