Rapid progress at Terat Dairy

Dear friends and supporters,

We have a lot of exciting updates to report this quarter! Despite slow progress with fundraising, OMASI and SVRG have managed to make vast improvements to the Dairy in Terrat in a short space of time, which was under disrepair only a few months ago.

Since the start of the rejuvenation process, we have reached many significant milestones…

Prior to the rejuvenation project starting, the floor of the dairy had been ravaged by termites, meaning that the facility couldn’t be used. Now, the processing rooms are equipped with new floors, so they are now certified as food-safe and ready for operation! Check out the pictures below, which show the progress with the floor- from a termite nest to an operational dairy.

The milk chillers have also been fixed and are currently being test run in remote areas, being powered by solar so that local women can bring their milk more locally, which greatly reduces the risk of spoilage and in-turn the loss of profits. In addition, we are running hygiene training sessions for the women who are milking the cows in order to ensure that the milk produced adheres to food hygiene standards, and women are equipped with the knowledge necessary to produce high-quality milk.

We have also been discussing pricing with the women who will sell their milk in order to ensure they receive a fair price for their produce, and the dairy continues to be profitable. In order to increase the efficiency of milk production for local women, we are looking at new breeds of cows that can survive in dry conditions and also produce more milk.

Whilst there has been an impressive amount of progress, we need your support in order for this project to continue.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you in future. In the meantime, if you would like to share this project link with your friends and family, the community in Terat would be hugely grateful!
