MBF’s Long-term partner Alternare and the local communities successfully reforested 104.9 hectares with 45,918 trees in summer and held 138 workshops in 15 indigenous communities and ejidos in the region, benefiting 1,196 people!
The workshops addressed key issues such as adaptation to climate change, development of organic fertilizers, solid waste management, and the production of forest trees. Sustainable infrastructure projects were also carried out, including the construction of latrines, ferrocement cisterns and water distribution systems. To promote marketing skills, workshop participants were trained in packaging, labeling, and product promotion of items such as honey. They also learned how to identify and restore bee habitats.
Elena Moreno (shown in the photo below) is an instructor from the 20th generation of graduates that have been trained by Alternare. She told us that during the training “I learned to value soil as a source of sustenance for all of us and prompted me to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. From the first day I discovered how important it is to transmit knowledge with empathy and responsibility, realizing that doing so for a common purpose is an act of love to the earth. I am deeply grateful with Alternare who shared their knowledge and how communities have the power to make changes. I am very inspired and committed to the conservation of our environment.”
Like Elena, we are also inspired by Alternare’s work and are very pleased with these wonderful accomplishments. With your continuing support we hope to continue supporting these valuable efforts next year.
All of us at MBF wish you the best for this holiday season and may the new year bring lots of monarchs into our lives!
