Kampung Song-Song located in Kota Belud, Sabah has been identified as one of the poorest village around the area.
With our team's experience in working on alternative livelihood programmes on various islands, several workshops on economic activities for the community such as sewing, traditional handicraft, the building of a Community Learn Centre, and establishment of a women's association has been conducted from June to November this year.
Just last week, 20 women & girls from the Kg. Song-Song community joined a 6-day handicraft training to learn how to weave different handicrafts using Serdang leaves. The handicrafts made will be sold to help community earn some money for themselves and their family.
Improving the livelihoods and education for rural or small communities is an effective way to lift them out of poverty. We hope this programme will serve as a first step in providing them with necessary skills to generate sustainable income, and ultimately uplifting the lives of the Song-Song village community.
This November 30, from 12:00AM to 11:59PM (EST), GlobalGiving is giving away one million dollars to nonprofits around the world as part of their #MoveAMillion campaign for #GivingTuesday.
