We have been quiet due to the monsoon season which brings a lot of rain and rough sea conditions that hamper us from getting our works done. However, we managed to conduct Crown-of-Thorns removal during a short window when the weather was slightly calmer.
Reef Check Malaysia, together with Tioman Marine Conservation Group and FDiver’s staff and guest removed a total 140 Crown-of-Thorns last week. We conducted 3 dives, 2 at Renggis Island and 1 at Pirate Reef.
Crown-of-Thorns have never been a problem in Tioman until last year when the population increased drastically, above what a healthy reef can support. Since then we have been actively monitoring and controlling the outbreak.
Thank you to FDiver for providing the logistics.
