Our team is currently working to boost and encourage existing land-based tourism on Tioman Island so that it can serve as an alternative source of income for the islanders and reduce pressure on the coral reefs. Last year, seven jungle trekking paths on Tioman, one from each village, were upgraded and 20 local islanders were given a 3-day basic trekking guide training course.
Recently, the group of trained local trekking guides underwent a 3-day training in safe leadership. This training focused on how to lead tourists safely in the jungle but also included basic first aid and search and recovery methods.
