Our team on Mantanani Island has started the first phase of waste segregation at household levels for the larger village, Padang Village. This first phase involves 30 homes out of 154 homes in the village. Based on our experience of successful implementation of waste segregation in the small village, Siring Bukit Village, we conducted one-on-one consultations and briefings on how to separate their waste into plastic, aluminium/metal/glass, and food waste. We also provided some basic materials to separate their waste. We are hoping to provide permanent, sturdy bins to every household in the near future when we have sufficient funding.
Day 1 collection from 30 households:
Plastic: 4 kg
Aluminium/metal/glass: 4.8 kg
Food waste: 32.1 kg
