Lambi Fund staff and board members recently returned from a field visit with partner organizations in Northwest Haiti to assess how communities are doing post-quake. This was a wonderful opportunity to talk with locals about the earthquake’s impact on their communities and how local organizations banded together to respond accordingly.
Members of KFTK-NW, a women’s organization with over 4,000 members, talked with Lambi Fund about their struggles post-quake. All had upwards of 20 individuals living in their house and were unsure how they were going to care for the earthquake survivors seeking solace. Thanks to Lambi Fund’s emergency response grants members of KFTK-NW were able to provide urgently needed food, water and medical supplies to survivors who fled Port-au-Prince.
These small grants also allowed members to recapitalize their small businesses and seek a sustainable income. On a visit to a local grain mill, Lambi Fund staff was happy to see these business enterprises in action- women were selling homemade bread, dried fish, fruit and other goods to those at the grain mill. Ensuring that Haiti’s local economies are viable is an intrinsic part of the recovery process. Continue to support community-led rebuilding in Haiti and consider purchasing tools for a local grain mill or sharing this project with a friend….and mesi for all of your support!
