With YUM’s new and improved Community Library, many children and young adults have enjoyed the easy access to the various information and reading materials offered by the Library.
Currently, up to five schools, groups of learning clubs and many pre-schools children regularly visits the library and participate in the many fun and educational activities. The library on average is visited by over 30 children and young adults a day. An impressive improvement for a community that has only been newly introduced to the enjoyment and benefits of reading!
With funding support from various YUM friends and supporters gained through Global Giving, we are now able to employ a librarian who has started to develop and expand the library services, such as include a new reading lab for children wanting to learn reading. Additionally, a new database system has been created in order to store data concerning book collection, number of visions and much more.
Furthermore, to attract more visitors, the librarian along with YUM’s young Australian volunteer, Kimika Oddie, has begun to create scheduled activities for visitors to participate in, such as; storytelling, reading aloud, creative days - drawing, English club and many others. Once a week, the library also provide a glass of milk for each children visited our library after the morning exercise.
