Re-Sight Islam aims to illuminate and introduce to a largely Western audience the Islamic faith and its traditions from the Islamic perspective. "I believe my fellow Americans deserve a second look at Islam from the voice of an American Muslim-free of pundits and politicians," host Qasim Rashid says. Support of the Religion News Foundation goes to promoting religious literacy through projects like this, and supporting the work of religion journalists around the world.
A recent Pew Research Center survey found that 65% of immigrant Muslims in the U.S. and 91% of U.S. born Muslims believe there is a lot of discrimination against Muslims. "There is a lot of misunderstanding about Islam and Muslims and this podcast is a step in the direction of educating the public about both," said RNF CEO Thomas Gallagher. This and other misunderstandings are countered by the important work of the RNF through a variety of projects, workshops, resources, and more.
