In 2024, the Kevin Richardson Foundation was proud to support the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) in their tireless efforts to combat poaching and human-wildlife conflict in the Greater Kruger National Park landscape. Through this partnership, significant progress was made in protecting vulnerable species and preserving this vital ecosystem.
EWT achieved several milestones during the year. Two spotted hyenas were fitted with tracking collars, enabling field teams to locate and dismantle snare sites more effectively. These efforts have been crucial in reducing the impact of poaching on local wildlife.
Lion conservation also advanced with seven lions fitted with tracking collars. This data allowed EWT to develop an innovative alert system, providing real-time notifications when movement patterns suggested potential threats. This technology has enhanced their ability to respond swiftly and prevent further harm.
Since April, EWT removed 1,769 snares in the Greater Kruger National Park area, safeguarding countless animals. Additionally, their field teams rescued four hyenas and two lions from snares, delivering vital medical care before releasing them back into the wild.
The Kevin Richardson Foundation remains committed to supporting EWT as they lead the charge in protecting South Africa’s wildlife. Their dedication, ingenuity, and on-the-ground action continue to make a profound difference, and we are honoured to contribute to their mission. Together, we look forward to building on these achievements in 2025 and beyond.
