Your support has paid off! Thanks to your very generous contributions during the #SolveIt campaign, the Youth Policy Fellowship has launched with great success! Our six young fellows kicked off the program 3 weeks ago at University Settlement at the Houston Street Center, and have been spending time getting to know each other along with the issues they see in their communities. This year’s group has young people from all over the city, including Brownsville and Bed Stuy in Brooklyn, Harlem and Chinatown in Manhattan, and Soundview in the Bronx.
At their orientation, the fellows spent time identifying the issues in their community that made them want to apply to the fellowship and that they want to start working to change in their communities. The issues ranged from problems such as teen substance abuse, to gentrification, to police interactions. The group then spent time visualizing what their ideal community could look like, and built a bridge connecting the reality to this future. The young fellows are excited to make those bridges a reality through the development of their individual advocacy campaigns this year, and we are very excited to support them along the way!
If you’d like to keep track of their success on our social media accounts, follow RAP’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates!
