Summary

Ya'axche Conservation Trust's arsenal of rangers are one of the best trained nature protectors in Belize. These highly skilled rangers directly protect over 151,000-acres of forests in southern Belize. Their passion for keeping the integrity of Belize's natural resources is beyond this world. Two of our rangers have been called-out to run 20K in the first ever Chiquibul Challenge Marathon. The marathon aims to raise awareness on beauty and threats of protected areas and to celebrate fitness.

Challenge

Yearly protected areas across Belize and around the world are being threatened by deforestation and unsustainable land-use practices, just to name a few. Ya'axche rangers' participation in the first ever Chiquibul Challenge Marathon will help raise awareness of the importance of protected areas in Belize and passion behind conservation. Protected areas play a vital role in maintaining clean air, clean water, medicinal plants, and food for communities.

Solution

Ya'axche Conservation Trust's rangers have been challenged along with other rangers in Belize to run in a 20K running marathon as part of the Chiquibul Challenge Marathon. Their participation will not only contribute toward the success of the event but bring awareness to the threats and beauty of nature in Belize.

Long-Term Impact

Rangers, who are the eyes and ears of Belize's protected areas, will be empowered to talk about on-the-ground threats to nature in Belize. Their involvement in marathons such as this gives them a voice. Ya'axche rangers will continue to protect Belize's natural resources for future generations to come and support awareness raising initiatives such as the Chiquibul Challenge Marathon.
