For ASsIST, 2025 is a Year of Solidarity. Ramadan is a time of reflection, generosity, and solidarity. In 2025 (Hijri 1448) many asylum seekers and refugees in Greece from Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Kurdish communities, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and other countries across sub-Saharan West Africa will endeavour to celebrate Ramadan far from home and family.
This Ramadan will again be a time of hardship for asylum seekers in Greece: many struggle to access food, shelter, and legal aid. Syrian asylum applications have been suspended, leaving them in a limbo of anxiety, while Afghans, Somalis, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis face uncertainty as Greece deems Turkey "safe"-though deportations to Turkey are not possible. Our Muslim friends will celebrate Ramadan of course, but far from their loved ones.
Our Team provides essential legal information and assistance to asylum seekers, most of whom are Muslim. We help them exercise their rights, understand their obligations, and begin a new life. But many also face urgent needs-food insecurity, housing instability, and limited healthcare. Through our free multilingual services: A helpline for information and support; legal assistance to navigate complex systems; and referrals to essential services for our beneficiiaries well-being:
Our services provide asylum seekers with the knowledge and support they need to proceed with their applications. We assist them from registration of their claim until they have either exhausted all legal options or received refugee status. We assist those whose applications have failed by informing them of their options and those with refugee status to overcome the bureaucratic challenges related to the integration to Greek society.
