Olturoto Children's Village is a Kickstart Kids project based in Isinya, Kajido County established with the aim of providing short term family-based alternative care to orphaned and vulnerable children. Through our Rescue, Empower & Reintegrate (RER) model, we help children affected by abuse, abandonment, neglect and FGM/early marriage over a maximum period of 3 years and place them back within a safe, stable and sustainable family environment.
The number of orphans and vulnerable children is estimated to be over 2.8 million in Kenya. The capacity of families to care and protect orphans is overstretched. This, combined with the increasing levels of poverty, has resulted in many children heading their own households, living in institutional care or surviving on the streets.
We provide short term family-based alternative care to orphaned and vulnerable children in need of rescue from abuse, neglect, abandonment and FGM/early marriage. This is done in partnership with the department of Children's Services. At the heart of our work is the belief that all children belong in a family and as such do not institutionalize children but provide required short term care (1 - 3 years) until we can place them back into a safe, stable and sustainable home environment.
Orphaned and vulnerable children have the opportunity to grow up in a safe, stable and sustainable home environment. We ensure that the children are given the immediate care and support required, are provided with psycho-social support, continue to attend school and live in a family centred environment whilst resolving the issues that caused separation. Our aim is to Rescue, Empower and Reintegrate 24 orphaned and vulnerable children every year
