Every year in India, 122,844 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 67,477 die from the disease
Breast and cervical cancers are two major cancers among Indian women.
One woman dies of cervical cancer every 8 minutes in India.
Cervical cancer is largely preventable with effective screening and treatment of precancerous lesions, and breast cancer survival rates are greatly reduced through early detection and treatment.
Besides the primary health services SPARSH hospital also organizes specific health camps for diagnostic and care of life threatening diseases.
Recently in Jan 2019 a Cancer diagnostic camp was organized at SPARSH for rural women living in the interiors. 476 women were screened from 109 villages of Omerga and Lohara block.
Prior to the camp , 214 government ASHA workers were trained by the specialist to identify the suspected cases for referral to the camp. Screening was done at villages level and suspected women called for specialist consultation during camp.
The specialists from Nargis Datt Memorial Cancer Hospital, Barshi screened the women with suspected cases of breast and cervical cancer. Government medical officers from the district also participated in the camp.
12 women of the 476 were suspected as serious cases and were referred to Nargis Dutt Cancer Hospital in Barshi. For all the women Pap smear and other required diagnostic tests were done.
PRIDE India animators will follow up on the cases and these patients will be provided regular support.
Thank you so much for your continued support in helping us in reaching out to the needy and vulnerable people.
We appeal you to help us save many more through these camps!
