Since 2016, "Dream Boxes" (the carbon dioxide asphyxiation chambers for animals) in Hiroshima Prefecture have ceased operations. However, we continue to respond to requests from the prefecture to rescue numerous dogs that were scheduled for euthanasia.
Saving as many dogs as possible requires indispensable teamwork with government agencies. To increase the number of adoptions from animal welfare centers, we share various know-how, such as methods for training dogs to get used to people and adoption processes.
This year, Peace Wanko has begun rescue operations in Shizuoka, Fukuoka, and Kagawa prefectures. Our staff work in collaboration with government agencies and other organizations, spending hours traveling to various locations to rescue dogs.
"Animal rescue is our life mission. Every day, we connect lives that have nowhere else to go. There's nothing more valuable than that. That's why, no matter how demanding the schedule, we never feel tired," says Makoto Abe, project leader of Peace Wanko Japan.
"We are not working to reduce the workload of animal welfare centers. We believe that the public and private sectors must work together to promote the protection and adoption of stray animals."
People involved in animal rescue all share the same commitment. The goal of "Zero Euthanasia" nationwide is not just a slogan; it is a future that we are determined to achieve. Peace Wanko will continue to expand our efforts, helping and collaborating with government agencies and other organizations to make "Zero Euthanasia" a reality across the nation.
