By DR JOHN PHILIP | PROJECT LEADER

SCHOOL DESKS MADE BY LOCAL PUPILS
SCHOOL DESKS MADE BY LOCAL PUPILS

The economic fall out from the pandemic will have serious impact on low- and middle-income countries. In particular, the children will suffer from disrupted education and derelict infrastructure.

Your generosity has helped us to supply 126 desks and benches to 5 primary schools on the island of Ukerewe in Lake Victoria.

Thank you for your support.

Our contact in Ukerewe says:

‘These desks will help to reduce the huge shortage that exist in many schools and help more than 378 children to learn while sitting on desks and improve the learning.

‘Our hope one day every child will have a sit and in good learning environment without any challenges, a situation that will enable them to get education with great tranquil and attentiveness.

‘The desks deficit in Ukerewe district were 9,488 in all primary schools, there so many efforts the government and community applied, contribution of some funds for making desks and from other development stakeholders and individual friends.’

Desks for School Children Project have been implemented almost five months (from October 2020 to February 2021), these desks were handed over to the District Executive Director of Ukerewe District Council and distributed to schools with high deficit. The four primary schools received desks were Kagenderoprimary school 45, Chamatuli primary school 21 desks, Mitimirefu primary school 20 desks and Mwigoye primary school 20 desks.

These desks will help to reduce the huge shortage that exist in many schools due to many parents being encouraged to send their children to school after education become fee free for primary and secondary education, these amount of desks we donated today will help more than 378 children to learn while sitting on desks and improve the learning environment.

Our hope one day every child will have a sit and in good learning environment without any challenges, a situation that will enable them to get education with great tranquil and attentiveness.
