Summary

Schools were closed because students and education officials showed symptoms of intoxication. How long will corporate production be more important than people's lives? Toxic gases wander through the air, contaminating everything in their path and affecting the quality of life of the people who live in these territories. During this week, the Superintendence of the Environment limited the production of 6 companies of the industrial cordon that were identified as responsible for the intoxication

Challenge

More than half a million hectares of native Chilean forest have been lost in the central-southern part of the country, between Valparaiso and Los Lagos, during the last two decades. In the specific case of the central zone of the country, where Puchuncavi is located, the most significant change is the retreat of native species of the Mediterranean climate. Since 2000, about 8% of the native forest territory has been lost.

Solution

In addition, trees produce oxygen, purify the air, form fertile soils, prevent erosion, keep rivers clean, capture water for aquifers, serve as refuges for fauna, reduce soil temperature, favor the establishment of other species, regenerate soil nutrients and improve the landscape. This process in which forests sequester carbon from the atmosphere contributes to climate change mitigation. A growing forest is classified as a carbon sink. To plant a tree is to cultivate the hope of a better life

Long-Term Impact

In addition to the environmental benefits of reforesting native forests, there are a number of benefits for the community, for the people who are the most affected by pollution in this area. We hope that by planting, the children will be able to return to their schools and continue their studies without being polluted just by breathing. Along with this, by being a sacrificial zone we are giving hope that any deforested site can have a new life and purpose as a native forest.
