Dear Friends,
Several exciting updates: Gregoire Ahongbonon was awarded an honorary master's degree from a university in Naples on October 1, 2024. This award is an incredible honor for a man with a grade school education who has transformed mental healthcare forever in West Africa. He is self-educated and steadfast in his mission to bring dignity to those with mental health challenges.
The grand opening of the Addiction Treatment Center in Dassa, Benin was indeed a grand affair. Complete with a parade of client/staff, regional Association Saint Camille (ASC) staff, and international supporters from Canada, Spain, and the United States on 17 August 2024. This center is the first ever of this kind in West Africa. It was an honor to attend.
Your ongoing support of the construction of the center and the supporting farm, healthcare and rehabilitative services would not have been possible without you. ASC recently constructed a cold room where medications that require refrigeration can be stored. This option increases the medication options that can be provided. We continue to send donated supplies and medications, but shipping fees must be paid.
ASC is actively pursuing land to expand into Nigeria. People seeking help will no longer have to travel to Benin. Local support is strong to have ASC expand into Nigeria.
Free care available to all is a core principle of ASC which sets it apart from other providers. Unlike higher income countries, patient fees cannot cover the costs. The equivalent of $3 - $5 USD per month is the maximum most patients and families can afford. No one is turned away for inability to pay. At home visits have increased to reduce the length of expensive hospital stays.
Thank you!
