Donor visiting her well - Odisha India
When I asked the people of Mundaguda village what life was like before they received a water well, I learned that for as long as they could remember they had dug holes in the ground until water appeared – after which they would cover the water to allow the dirt they stirred up to sink to the bottom. They had to wait for 24 hours before they could drink the water – and always with the risk that the water was contaminated with pathogens from animals that drank from the same water hole and poisonous insects. But today they have access to clean water 24/7 from a well we constructed right in their village, disease from contaminated water is a thing of the past, and their children are thriving. All this was made possible by donations from people just like you.

Continuing to Provide the Gift of Clean Water
By Rick Carlton | Founder and Managing Director
The World Health Organization states that globally, 1,700,000 children under the age of five die each year as a result of water-related diseases; UNICEF asserts that more children are killed each year by unsafe water than by bullets. In fact, 70% of surface water in India is unfit for consumption.
One of the ways in which SevaChild is working to combat such problems is by installing water wells that reliably deliver life-sustaining potable water; so far this year, we have made operational 42 water wells in remote villages where dangerously-contaminated water has presented health hazards for generations. Now, the lives of future generations have been improved with this newfound access to one of the most critical resources for human health. And we are just beginning!
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, SevaChild has received funding for an additional ten wells, the completion of which we anticipate prior to the beginning of 2024. The majority of water wells drilled, erected and made operational by SevaChild have been paid for by those who specifically dedicate the structure to a lost loved one, which is commemorated with a plaque inscribed with a personalized message.

Drilling More Wells for Better Health
By Rick Carlton | Founder and Managing Director
It is estimated that women and young girls worldwide lose literally millions of hours each year walking long distances to fetch water. In rural India, the water sources from which they draw are often contaminated open ponds and streams frequented by fowl and other animals. Due to this untenable situation, many women and girls will lose years of their lives in the pursuit of drinking water riddled with what are preventable waterborne diseases.
March 22 was World Water Day -- a day sanctioned by the United Nations to spotlight the importance of sustainable potable water still unavailable to millions of people.
Thanks to donations from our supporters, SevaChild has completed 12 new wells in the remote tribal villages of Orissa since Christmas. That’s a total of 39 wells funded and completed that are now providing thousands of tribal men, women, and children with clean, uncontaminated drinking water for decades to come.
Since we last wrote to you, we have drilled another two wells and are on the verge of establishing several more within the next thirty days; however, we have 11 more villages earmarked for wells where the need is critical. These villagers need your support.
Please remember the tribal families of Odisha who still suffer from the perils of contaminated water.
