Greetings from Mozambique!
In 2019, we started supporting Sofala in the wake of the cyclone disaster, and we have been providing various water supply support including from traditional shallow well excavation to solar-powered water supply facilities.
Digging the well is challenging works. Depending on the geographical features of the location, the depth of the water point is different. In some areas, saltwater comes out when we dig the well even slightly over the point. In another area, even though we dig about 80 meters, we couldn't get to the water source.
At this time, we using hand pumps for easy maintenance for local people. Based on the local hydrogeological surveys and consultations with residents, we decide to install it. Hand pumps are labor-intensive, but cheap so residents can maintain water supply facilities on their own.
Pumping the deep groundwater is hard works required skills, especially for women and children who are responsible for daily water extraction. So we operating a series of training for them. Through the training, the village was empowered to manage safe water.
We also keep working on the construction of solar-powered water supply facilities in the surrounding area. While addressing the current challenges in the region, we are also continuing to explore and work to support sustainable water supply facilities in Mozambique.
Thank you for your support in 2021, and we expect and appreciate your continued support in 2022. Happy New Year!
